Le 1er livre d'Airs à quatre parties (1619)
Le 1er livre d’Airs à quatre parties (1619) by Jean Boyer: introduction by Thomas Leconte and sections 89, 99 and 100 in a slipcase.
Jean Boyer (c. 1600–1648), a violinist and composer at the French court, distinguished himself with several editions of airs published between 1619 and 1627 by the music publisher Ballard. The inclusion of these pieces in various collections demonstrates the success and quality not only of the air de cour, mainly circulated in aristocratic circles, but more particularly of these, whose richness, stimulated by the freedom of form, attests to the author’s talent. The edition comes in a slipcase with the three cahiers and an introductory note by Thomas Leconte, including a biographical note, the original edition’s warning to the reader and bibliographical information on the airs, placing them in context.
