Présentation :
Les Caractères de la Danse is, along with Les Eléments, one of Rebel’s most successful 18th-century choreographic symphonies. The score was published in 1715, but it is likely that the music already existed. It is a condensed form of the suite, in which all the dances are outlined in terms of metre and character, with no further development, and are linked together to form a single piece. In addition to the quality of the themes, Rebel’s talent lies in the use of a variety of writing devices to link all these miniatures together.
