Les Sons harmoniques
Sonates à violon seul avec la basse continue - oeuvre 4e
The first edition of Mondonville’s Sons harmoniques, published in the late 1730s, featured a remarkably clear engraving. However, the particularity for which the work is renowned - the sustained use of harmonics - obliged the composer to adopt a new system of notation, ingenious but different from the one currently used. To facilitate the reading and performance of the work, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles has decided to present a new edition with modernised notation, while respecting Mondonville’s particular use of natural harmonic fingerings, most of which are rarely used today. This edition also includes separate parts for violin and basso continuo, and a realisation of the latter, for the use of keyboardists with little experience in reading figured bass.
