Romances pour voix et guitare
Romance, a genre combining voice and instrumental accompaniment, appeared in the second half of the 18th century. Situated at the crossroads between the ariette of opéra comique and French mélodie, the romance, sung mainly in salons, was often simple in construction – couplets, refrain – set to poetic texts in the language of love. Charles Doisy was an important person in Paris at the end of the 18th century as a composer, performer, publisher and teacher of the guitar. This collection of romances for voice and guitar features both original works by Doisy and his own guitar arrangements of romances by Méhul, Cherubini and Haydn. The volume contains a preface, the scores and critical notes.
