Presintation:
Michel-Richard de Lalande composed dances and airs that were inserted into Charles-Antoine Coypel’s play Les Folies de Cardenio. Sources for this work, premiered in 1720 at the Château du Louvre and danced by Louis XV, are scattered: text, music and choreography are preserved in different places. Virtually only the instrumental music has survived, as well as three airs for soprano, in a collection of symphonies for the Soupers du roi, without alto parts, which have been restored in this edition. Gérard Geay and Christophe Coin’s reconstruction of the ballet is offered here, along with the libretto and the choreography, enabling us to understand the sequence of the pieces and their place in the action.
